How to Go to Mykonos
It is a Greek island, a part of the Aegean Sea Cyclades. Mykonos has easy access. There are many direct flights from many European countries and many frequent flights from Athens. Flights from Athens take 30 minutes, while flights from Europe usually take 2 to 4 hours (London, Paris, Frankfurt and others).
You can easily find a boat from the two ports of Athens, from Piraeus or from Rafina. Piraeus is closer to the center of Athens, while Rafina is closer to the city’s airport. A regular boat takes 5 hours from Piraeus to Mykonos, while a speedboat takes 3 hours. From Rafina, the ferry takes 2.5 hours and the speedboat 2 hours. If you’re visiting Athens before heading to the islands, the port of Rafina is about 1 hour and 15 minutes away, so you won’t be really saving time choosing it over Piraeus.
Mykonos is also connected to various famous islands such as Santorini, Crete, Folegandros, Paros, Naxos, Ios, which depending on the boat the journey takes from 30 minutes to 5 hours.
Mykonos Travel Costs
Mykonos is a seasonal and high in-demand destination. Together with Santorini are the most expensive islands of Greece. The best thing to do is to save on accommodation, by booking early (as much as 6 months in advance, as prices go up as demand increases). To avoid paying the exorbitant prices at restaurants, a good idea is to try the street souvlaki.
Do I need a car in Mykonos?
By renting a car in Mykonos you have the chance to reach more beaches, especially the more remote ones in the north. However, parking in the center of Mykonos Town can be difficult, and you may end up having to park in the outskirts or on the parking lot by the Old Port. The bigger hotels have parking lots. Taxis are very limited on the island, and it is better to not rely on the local buses.
