Volcano Festival in Santorini

Volcano Festival in Santorini

If you like events and fireworks this day is for you!

Ifestia is an event that takes place in Santorini in mid-September. The whole island gathers οn the caldera of Thera to watch the fireworks show. Thousands of fireworks go off on the volcano’s ground. This spectacular event attracts a lot of people these days. To have the best possible experience and enjoy this spectacle from as close as possible with the fireworks right above you, I recommend booking an excursion on a boat that will be approaching the site during these hours to enjoy the best view and take the best pictures. It is a very romantic experience and I would recommend you to spend it with your boyfriend/ girlfriend!

A little history now…

The representation of the volcano eruption, the feast, called ”Ifestia” , take place to celebrate the eruption that occurred thousands of years ago, specifically 3,600 years ago, and formed the island of Santorini in its current form, the famous best. However, this eruption may have been positive for this island, but it is believed to be responsible for the destruction of the Minoan civilization and many other places. Although there is no confirmed study that this earthquake actually happened, scientists have found some geological evidence. This earthquake is said to be one of the largest in human history and has caused the blackness and dark, eerie landscape we marvel at today.

Santorini is famous for its caldera, lunar landscape and the unique sunsets that form due to the volcanic climate.
